Chemical peels help with a variety of cosmetic concerns, such as dull complexion, lines and acne. Betsy Horton, MD, of Omega MedSpa offers chemical peels for residents in Atlanta, Fayetteville, Peachtree City, Newnan, Eagles Landing, Hampton, LaGrange, and surrounding communities in Georgia.
What are chemical peels?
Chemical peels are cosmetic treatments that rely on specific chemicals to remove layers of skin. Many of the chemicals can be found in consumer skin care products, but our solutions contain higher levels of the active ingredients. Dr. Horton may recommend one of three types of chemical peels:
- A light, exfoliating chemical peel to remove dead skin cells and help with roughness and uneven tone. These peels can be repeated monthly.
- A medium chemical peel that affects the middle and outer layer of skin to help with fine lines, age spots, some wrinkles and certain growths on the skin. These peels can be repeated every six months.
- A deep chemical peel, which is the strongest type of peel for age spots, sagging skin, certain scars and wrinkles. These peels cannot be repeated.
Benefits of chemical peels
Chemical peels are minimally invasive because they do penetrate the skin. The treatments may help with issues that cannot be addressed with surgery and other medical spa treatments.
How do chemical peels work?
The chemical solutions used for our peels are designed to remove certain layers of damaged skin. Each chemical will only penetrate certain layers of skin.
Am I a candidate for chemical peels?
Chemical peels are not viable options for every patient. Dr. Horton may recommend an alternative if you are not a good candidate.
What to expect from chemical peels
Your chemical peel may take as little as 15 minutes. The aesthetician cleans your skin then applies the chemical solution. After the solution has rested on the skin for a specific amount of a time, a neutralizing solution is applied, and your skin is cleansed. The aesthetician may apply a cream to calm the skin.
How long is the recovery after chemical peels?
Light chemical peels do not require recovery. Your skin may feel slightly sensitive. Medium and deep peels do require some aftercare and recovery. We provide instructions before you leave our practice.
