Damaged layers of skin make your complexion dull and aged. Laser skin resurfacing removes these layers of skin to reveal healthier, younger skin. Betsy Horton, MD, of Omega MedSpa offers laser skin resurfacing treatments for residents in Atlanta, Fayetteville, Peachtree City, Newnan, Eagles Landing, Hampton, LaGrange, and surrounding communities in Georgia.
What is laser skin resurfacing?
Plastic surgery and laser skin tightening may help with some problems, but superficial flaws require laser skin resurfacing. The treatments are a safe and convenient way to help reduce:
- Signs of sun damage
- Birthmarks
- Redness and blotchy appearance
- Acne scars
- Some types of warts and moles
- Certain types of skin cancer
Benefits of laser skin resurfacing
Laser skin resurfacing reduces flaws that appear on the surface of your skin and helps give the skin a smooth appearance and texture. Most treatments take less than one hour, and no downtime is needed.
How does laser skin resurfacing work?
Several types of laser technologies can be used for laser skin resurfacing, but each works in a similar way. The laser removes only the outermost layer of skin to reveal younger, smoother skin that has fewer flaws.
Am I a candidate for laser skin resurfacing?
You may be a good candidate for laser skin resurfacing if you have damage on the outermost layer of skin, such as freckles, superficial scars, wrinkles and lines. Patients with oily or dark skin may not be good candidates for the procedure. Another consideration is the severity of the skin flaws, such as deeper wrinkles that may require an alternative solution.
What to expect from laser skin resurfacing
Prior to your laser skin resurfacing treatment, we may administer a local anesthesia or give you a sedative. The beam of laser energy is used to carefully remove the damaged layer of skin. The process not only removes the flawed skin, but also triggers the growth of new, healthy skin cells.
Treatment time averages less than one hour, but some skin corrections can take up to two hours.
How long is the recovery after a laser skin resurfacing treatment?
Less intense laser skin resurfacing treatments require no downtime, but more extensive treatments may require several weeks of recovery. The certified laser technician will provide the details of your personal laser skin resurfacing procedure during the consultation. Your skin may look mildly red for a few days, and this can be concealed with makeup. The skin may also feel slightly irritated as if you have a minor sunburn. New cell development may be visible after two weeks.
Additional Treatment Information
Laser skin resurfacing is not covered by insurance, so we accept several forms of payment, including cash, checks and major credit cards. You may qualify for financing through CareCredit® and LendingUSA.
